Good Grief 5K: A Fantastic Tune-Up Race That Makes a Difference

Another fantastic tune-up race has hit the scene. The Good Grief 5K has a unique day and time and is loaded with great incentives to get out and run. More than that, the proceeds go towards a fantastic cause. Hear from Dave Cunningham a member of the board for Kidscope, formally called Three Trees.

“Kidzcope is a unique local non-profit that serves kids and their families after a loss. This may be a parent, a brother or sister, even a pet. Wichita and the surrounding areas have many different resources to help adults deal with grief during a loss. There are little to no resources to help kids. Kidzcope was founded over 10 years ago as Three Trees to provide support for grieving children and their families. The name was changed in 2010 to help better identify the purpose of the organization with their mission which has remained unchanged since its inception. Over these many years, Kidzcope has served over a thousand children ranging in age from 3 to 18. Their services are free and people’s lives are changed as a result.

The cost of these services are not free however. Kidzcope depends heavily on donors and two annual events for their funding. One of these events is the upcoming Kidzcope Good Grief 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, September 2nd in Old Town Square starting at 6:30pm. The race is a certified and chip timed course designed by Clark Ensz. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes in the form of Go Run gift certifications will be awarded to the best men’s and women’s finishers. Recognition for the top kids runners will occur as well.

Following the race, food, dessert and drinks along with beer for adults will be provided as the winners are awarded their prizes. There will also be a raffle for a number of other significant prizes during this time.

As a Kidzcope board member, I can tell you that Kidzcope touches children in a significant and positive way. We operate on a very tight budget with mostly volunteers to serve this critical mission. Without your support, we would be unable to fulfill this valuable mission for the children of Southcentral Kansas.

Please consider running or waking  this race as a family. The price is very reasonable – $25 for adults and $15 for kids.
