How is Being a Local Joe Treating Arleigh?
1. My first month as a Local Joe has been bumpy. Figuratively and literally.
2. What’s been your best experience so far?
My second long run with Start 2 Finish I felt like I was flying. It was a 6 miler, and I haven’t felt that amazing at a 9 minute mile in a long time. Plus, my fastest miles were my last ones!
3. Worst?
A couple weeks ago I looked like I had been struck by the plague. This has never happened to me before, but I got a heat rash, which basically means my sweat was trapped underneath my skin. The only way to heal was to not sweat (RIGHT?), so that really set me back in my training.
4. How are you feeling about July’s training?
It’s been a long time since I’ve been in a training program. I forgot how difficult it is to keep a running schedule on top of whatever schedule I already have in place. After a rocky start, I feel like I have a better handle on what I need to adjust schedule wise in order to reach my goal. Prioritization is my new mantra.
5. Funniest Joe moment so far?
I’m convinced every runner gets honked at, men and women alike. I try and ignore it when it happens, but there was a car being particularly persistent. I turned towards the car with a really pissed off look only to lock eyes with a good friend. I actually love it when that happens!
